Becoming: The J.EHREN Project

A visual story of becoming— the rise of J.EHREN: a brand, a subculture, and a community in motion.

Where scraps become statements and runways become rites of becoming.

Since 2023, I’ve been documenting the rise of J.EHREN—a fashion house born from scraps, stitched with defiance, and carried by community. What began as behind-the-scenes snapshots and runway photographs has grown into a body of work that now anchors my practice.

This project isn’t just about clothes. It’s about subculture, intimacy, sustainability, inclusivity, and the power of visibility. It’s about giving people their moment on the runway, and bearing witness to Joey Ehrenberg—the designer behind J.EHREN—as he shapes a brand born from nothing but vision and grit.

In every fitting, every late-night studio session, every improvised runway, I’ve witnessed becoming: Joey’s becoming as a designer, each model’s becoming as they step more fully into themselves, and my own becoming as an observationist who cares less about spectacle and more about truth.

These photographs are not just documentation; they’re a visual story of a community in motion. They hold grit and grace, defiance and tenderness, radical inclusivity and bold individuality. They mirror the ethos of J.EHREN itself: a rebellion against waste, a reimagining of possibility, and a love letter to those who dare to stand out.

Here, fashion is not a commodity—it’s transformation. And this, too, is our becoming.

Artist’s Note: This project is rooted in community. It would not exist without the vision and support of Decentered Arts, who first gave J.EHREN a stage, and without the models who have allowed me close access to their lives. Their openness, vulnerability, and courage in front of the camera are acts of generosity that turn fashion into something deeper—an expression of becoming. I am profoundly grateful to them; this work is as much theirs as it is mine.
